Spring 5-25-09

gore1It’s been a long time since my last blog entry. I do have to say that “The big hit” blog entry is difficult to beat. That’s a pretty tough act to follow…… here

Since then I’ve been out to Utah storm chasing, have had too many deep days to count in East Vail, and have explored numerous new areas in the Gore range. An absolutely amazing Spring to say the least. Never did my mind drift to “Summer” activities.

I recently had a discussion with a good friend. It was one of those talks that embraced everything life is about. What I took from that conversation is that the only constant in life is that it is always changing. For better and for worse, I’ve found this to be true.

I constantly find myself analyzing the human condition. Reflecting on the big picture and constantly evaluating what is important to me. Most of the time I arrive at the same conclusion time and time again…….. Being happy is the most important thing. I usually find this happiness skiing with my friends in amazing places that most never get to see or experience.

When you share such an amazingly unique experience with close friends, the best word I can use to describe it would probably be “surreal”. I have so many great memories of incredible days skiing with great people…….If I ever make it to being the old guy in the rocking chair, I know what I’ll be reminiscing about. It won’t be about my job, it won’t be about cleaning my apartment, it won’t be about all the other bullshit a lot of us get caught up in.

It will be about family, friends, and skiing.

Our time on this planet is not guaranteed. Our society seems to take it for granted in the process of making it easier to thrive via technology, etc. Like a big ant farm, it seems so many act on instinct and never stop to question the big picture….

Hopefully you do.

Anyway, as of late, I’ve been doing many things.  Copper built the first indoor ski training facility, and I’ve been “training” there frequently. I’ve also been introduced to the world of speedflying. Basically skiing down a mountain with a parachute/glider on your back, it’s pretty damn cool. You can see both in this video I made  here <—-right click, save as

I also spend a lot of my time in the terrain park at Arapaho Basin in the Spring.

When I’m not in the park, we venture into the backcountry-

Sometimes upright

Sometimes not

When not in Summit County around A-Basin, we like to explore the Gore Range….and it is beautiful.

And the boys trying to make sense of all this Winters footage.

And taking the footage here

All of us put our efforts together and made a video that should see broadcast this Fall. Stay tuned.
